Safeguarding Adults - Investigator Course
Target Group:
Managers in Social Care, Learning Disability, Mental Health, HIV or other specialist Sensory or Disability Teams
Course Overview:
This course is designed for managers with a lead role in investigating allegations of abuse, who have had training or experience already on the recognition of abuse.
Managers attending the course
- will be expected to understand the definitions of vulnerability, to recognise abuse and know how to respond in the first instance to a disclosure.
- should familiarize themselves with their organisation's Adult Protection Procedures and Tool Kit.
The course will focus on practice skills and practice and legal issues and also skills to chair strategy meetings for AP cases. The course will include short tutor and group presentations, small group work, role play (practice interviewing), case study, chalk and talk and large group discussion.
Objectives:
- Themes and issues around developing good investigation practice
- Determination of vulnerability areas or risk factors
- Value base of investigation work: service user empowerment
- Issues around consent and capacity
- Issues around uncooperative or service resistant adults
- Issues around unfounded allegations of abuse and victim support
- Forensic evidence and the role of the medical and police
- Familiarisation of the organisation's policies and procedures and inter agency proceedings
- Acknowledgement of MCA as appropriate
- Determination of specific roles during investigation
- Understanding of the adult protection procedures inc. time frames
- Achieving Best Evidence in Criminal Proceedings
- The overseeing of the whole Adult protection process and making robust arrangements for the safety of vulnerable adults
