Recognising a Health Crisis
Care workers and people working or volunteering in a similar capacity need to have skills to recognise when a health crisis is present or a potential problem.
This course looks at developing the confidence, knowledge and skills in care workers to recognise what could potentially be, or is, a health crisis in service users and how to proceed with appropriate action of reporting and recording.
Aim
To develop knowledge, skills and confidence in care workers in recognising a health crisis and what appropriate action to take.
Learning Outcomes
Care Workers will be able to:
- Develop their observation and questioning skills in looking for potential health crisis
- Recognise common potential physical health crisis
- Recognise possible signs when there is a health crisis even if they are unable to identify actual cause
- Recognise a potential mental health crisis
- Refer to appropriate others for further assistance for advice; clarification or appropriate action - emergency or otherwise
- Know when not to take action (in cases where inappropriate action may negatively exacerbate a situation) unless instructed by or supported by a manager or appropriate other
- Take appropriate action within their roles and responsibilities as stated in their job descriptions
- Identify the processes of reporting according to their organisation's policies and procedures
- Record all appropriate information in correct places
