To promote awareness of domestic violence and its impact on children

Target Audience
To attend this workshop delegates must have undertaken as a minimum the Level 2 'Improving Working Together: the challenges' course.

This course is relevant for delegates who through their role, may be alerted to a situation of domestic violence in families.

This course is for all managers and practitioners having contact with children and their parents, particularly where domestic abuse may be an issue.

Aims:
To promote greater understanding of the impact on children of domestic violence and to importance of  inter-agency collaboration, assessment and intervention in this area of work

Objectives:
By the end of the course delegates should be able to:

  • Link the effects of domestic violence on children's well being and development
  • Use relevant knowledge in effective assessment, (within the Framework for the Assessment of Children in Need and their Families), planning and interventions
  • Describe the parental perspective and the potential impact on the worker.
  • Describe the impact of domestic abuse on children
  • Consider how to promote anti-discriminatory practice
  • Demonstrate knowledge of relevant legislation, guidelines and Procedures
  • Complete assessment documentation
  • Understand local child protection procedures in relation to the Framework for Assessment of Children in need and their families
  • Recognise and appreciate the need for a co-ordinated and consistent approach to working in areas of domestic abuse and child protection
