Meeting Skills for Care Induction Standards (CIS) for Managers and for New Workers

<< Back to previous page

The Common Induction Standards are designed for people entering social care work and those changing roles or employers within adult social care. They set out the areas of knowledge that care workers need to know before they can work unsupervised. The standards are not set at any particular qualification level, but are readily linked to the NVQ L2.

  • Understand the principles of care
  • Understand the organisation and the role of the worker
  • Maintain safety at work
  • Communicate effectively
  • Recognise and respond to abuse and neglect
  • Develop as a worker

The national minimum standards also require the worker to complete a moving and handling and first aid course before working unsupervised.

TCR Ltd is able to deliver the whole CIS course, including first aid, moving and handling, health and safety, food hygiene (required if the worker is handling food).

TCR Ltd is able to offer First Aid as an HSE Approved provider and food hygiene as an accredited course from the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH). Our trainer has CIEH approval. We are also able to offer the same for the health and safety courses - CIEH – (if required but not essential at induction stage). TCR has numerous moving and handling trainers, all of whom are qualified and experienced Manual Handling Trainers and Advisors.

For all sections of the CIS, TCR Ltd have trainers with appropriate knowledge and skills to deliver an Induction to Social Care programme:

Pick and Mix Approach
TCR Ltd is able to provide any section of the induction course to meet an organisation's requirements, for example, an organisation may just wish to purchase first aid, food hygiene and/or communication. If it is for the induction standards, TCR Ltd will brief the Trainers accordingly so they can add to the support of Delegates meeting Progress Log requirements to achieve the standards.

Care Workers/Learners
Learners are given guidance on how to complete their Progress Logs (downloadable from appropriate web site) and work under their own volition for some of the Log requirements and with their Managers and organisation in obtaining supervision and information as and where appropriate.

The practice environment is the most appropriate environment to learn and our Trainers give guidance on how to achieve the outcomes required and give underpinning knowledge to aid in their development of knowledge and skills. The Progress Log allows Learners to utilise the underpinning knowledge in a practice environment and recording their enhanced learning appropriately within their Logs.

Each organisation has different requirements according to what they are able to offer themselves and TCR Ltd is able to offer whatever their particular model requires.

Managers
Managers are responsible for assessing the competencies of their workers and overseeing the Learners induction period with supervision and in practice training. Guidance is given to Managers on various ways of offering learning and recording, certificating and logging information. They are also guided through the Learners' Progress Log and advised on how to assess for competencies in the areas indicated within their particular working environment and service user groups.
These sessions for managers are on a workshop basis to allow for freedom to talk about their particular issues. Part of the session will include some trainer presentation.

Please contact TCR to discuss your particular requirements and prices. Please see page two for an example of 3 day programme. Programmes are adaptable according to organisational need.
