Chairing Skills for Safeguarding Adults

  • Those co-ordinating the Safeguarding Adults assessment / investigation and protection planning process (this would be along the lines of managing case conferences)
  • Chairing / convening safeguarding meetings / discussions
  • Chairing disciplinary / appeal hearings scheduled hear allegations against staff

This one day course is designed for managers chairing / convening meetings to deal with safeguarding adults with the essential skills and techniques to run structured and meaningful meetings. Participants will be actively encouraged to draw on observed practice.

Aims & objectives
The course examines the procedures essential to chairing safeguarding adults meetings and provides ideas, hints and tips enabling participants to chair such meetings.

At the end of the course participants will:

  • Have an understanding of the meeting rules
  • Have an understanding of the role of the chairman in managing and concluding the meeting
  • Be able to plan for the meeting (pre, during and post meeting activities)
  • Consider the key behavioural characteristics of effective chairmanship
  • Be clear of the role of the minute secretary
