This course aims to provide delegates with a background to mental health issues and conditions that have particular impact on older people. After considering the overall process of ageing and the effect on mental health, the group will consider a number of specific diagnoses. The course will then offer the opportunity for considerations of the medical and social support that is available and what particular support delegates could offer in their own workplaces.

• The effects of the ageing process
• The signs and symptoms of a range of mental health conditions, particularly the Dementias
• What the medical model offers by way of treatment
• What social support is available
