Autistic Spectrum Disorders (including Aspergers) - Understanding
Target group:
People working with those with ASD at
all levels of need and in all settings.
Specific courses can be tailored
for those working with children/adults or to focus on those with specific
needs, such as high functioning autism/Asperger's or those with higher
support needs.
Aim:
To enable people to understand what ASD is and
begin to develop strategies for supporting people with ASD.
Objectives:
- To understand what ASD is and is not, focusing on the three main defining features of communication, social interaction and imagination problems
- To understand how people with ASD see the world
- To develop skills to communicate with people with ASD
- To understand how to support people with ASD using a variety of methods
- To apply these principles to real-life scenarios
