Appropriate/Responsible Adults
Outline
This course is designed to meet delegates' requirements from a variety of workplace settings. It gives underpinning knowledge which is required under PACE9 Police and Criminal Evidence Act) 1984 and individual organisations' policies and procedures.
Aims
To provide delegates with underpinning knowledge and skills to plan effective support for service users who are taken into custody
Objectives
Delegates will demonstrate and have understanding of:
- The role and responsibility of the 'Appropriate /Responsible Adult'
- The role, it's boundaries and complexities
- The three basic rights afforded to an arrested service user
- How to support in empowering vulnerable adults to access these rights
- The Police Service Guide to recognising vulnerable or intimidated witnesses
- The importance of effective communication and communication methods available to specific service users
