Safeguarding Adults Alerters and Referral course (Assessing the Alert)
The course is designed for social workers/support workers/nurses/OT's/carers etc, who have had training or experience already on the recognition of abuse.
Delegates attending the course will be expected to understand the basic of abuse awareness and recognising the most common sign and symptoms of abuse. It is not expected that workers attending this course will currently be involved in investigation of reported or alleged abuse.
Aims
- To develop this initial awareness and provide a more coherent framework with which to develop their primary responsibilities in safeguarding vulnerable adults.
- Stage two in the learning process and will focus on helping delegates understand what level of abuse requires intervention and help support them to make decisions as to when to report abuse and how to report abuse.

- Overview of social policy relating to Safeguarding Adults to date
- Analysis of statistical evidence
- Determination of vulnerability areas or risk factors
- Issues around consent and capacity
- Issues around uncooperative or service resistant adults
- Issues around domestic violence or abuse, crisis intervention and user led homeostasis
- Revision of policies and procedures and inter agency proceedings
- Acknowledgement of MCA as appropriate
- Overview of whistle-blowing policy and principles
- Responding to a disclosure
- Recording and reporting
- Understanding of the adult protection procedures inc. time frames
- Basic active listening skills
