Manual handling risk assessment for occupational therapists - 2 day
This course will acknowledge the specific working practices of Occupational Therapy and Occupational Therapists in relation to the following aims and objectives.
Aims:
- Understand legal requirements and obligations relating to moving and handling as a basis of assessment within their organisation
- Develop an understanding of ergonomics relevant to safer handling
- Identify ergonomic mismatches in moving and handling
- Acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to be confident in assessing persons who present moving and handling problems
Objectives:
Participants will have knowledge and skills:
- In health and safety and other relevant legislation, guidance and local policies in order to ensure compliance
- In the application of safe principles of moving and handling as it pertains to current work practices and methodsĀ
- Knowledge and understanding to carry out risk assessment applying rationales, processes and procedures
- In the assessment and management of a person with Bariatric needs
- In safer handling techniques including current 'good practice' techniques and knowledge of controversial moves and current guidance relating to them.
- In the assessment of moving and handling methods and practical solutions to consider to reduce risk
- Ability to apply the ergonomic approach to develop practical solutions to moving and assisting problems
- In organisation documentation, recording and reporting systems
