- Legal and professional responsibilities
- Choice, rights and promoting them
- Adults with variable muscle tone requiring special handling techniques
- Risk assessment processes
- Risk assessment and therapeutic moves
- Assisting a person with physical disabilities to move in a range of settings including within the home and community settings
- Assisting a person with bariatric needs,
- Compliance which may affect moving and handling behaviour, comprehension and speech
- Legislation and use of equipment
- Appropriate use of equipment and management of inappropriate equipment
- Manual handling risk assessment and analysis
Objectives
The delegates will be updated in:
- Knowledge of health and safety and other relevant legislation, guidance on local policies in order to ensure compliance
- Understanding of the application of safe principles of moving and handling as it pertains to current work practices and methods
- Knowledge and understanding of safer handling techniques including current practice moves and awareness of equipment available
- Knowledge and understanding of safe principles as outlined in policy guidance and training when working with powered equipment and small handling aids
- Ability to assess moving and handling activities and identify practical solutions to reduce risk
- Ability to comply with organisation documentation, recording and reporting systems
- Knowledge of how good back health contributes to a healthy spine
