Fire Warden Course (3 hours)

Fire Wardens should be aware of their legal responsibilities and roles within their organisation.  There should be, depending on numbers of staff and geographical locations and number of floors in the building, sufficient Fire Wardens.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Roles and responsibilities of a fire warden in relation to organisation, legislation and policies and procedures
  • Demonstrates an understanding of how fire starts and develops
  • Identifies types of fire and causes
  • Identify and explain the means of escape pertaining to their own building and organisation and other safe procedures and ensure all staff are aware
  • Can identify the various fire extinguishers and explain how they are used and ensure maintenance and replacement procedures are in place
  • Explain the importance of and the processes of liaison with the Fire Brigade and other emergency services
  • Be aware of procedures for contacting local fire brigade personnel for ongoing advice and compliance
  • Demonstrate an understanding, importance and use of information such as floor plans; registers and personnel under their charge
  • Identify the importance of supporting the safety of people with a disability and potential solutions e.g. up to date risk assessment; plans of individual evacuation management in place and ensuring that all appropriate personnel are kept aware and up to date with plans and procedures etc.
  • Identify and explain the legal requirements of testing of fire extinguishers and other apparatus of fire precaution within an organisation
  • Good housekeeping as a designated Fire Warden
