Emergency Response First Aid (½ Day)
Course Aim:
To minimise the risks associated with the application of emergency first aid if practiced during the course of their work duties. To meet National Occupational Standards.
Course objectives:
Attendees will have a basic awareness of:
- Their legal and professional duties within Health and Safety legislation and the policies and procedures of the London Borough of Merton
- What to do in a first response to illness or an accident in their work setting
- How to apply the safe principles of basic life support emergency first aid in response to illness or an accident at work
- How to apply the principles of basic life support first aid to their working practices in order to protect personal health
- How to practice safe use of first aid equipment
Course Contents
- Dealing with an Emergency Situation – Knowing what to do when an accident happens
- Dealing with casualties
- Aftercare
- CPR (Adult) Theory and Practice
- Treatment of injuries (Blood Loss – Recognising Shock, Treating blood loss)
- Infection Control (Use of Barriers, Gloves and Masks)
- A brief overview of the obvious symptoms of illnesses such as Asthma, Diabetes and Epilepsy

Certification: On completion of the course, candidates will be awarded a Certificate of Attendance.
