Supervision and Support
Course Aims:
This one-day session explores at the purpose of supervision and how it fits into effective performance management. This session has been designed to enable front line managers, supervisors/team leaders to reflect on their working practices and explore methods of providing effective supervision.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course the participants will be able to:
- Understand why supervision is essential – national minimum standards
- Prepare for a supervision interview
- Develop time management skills within the supervision process
- Prepare individual team member's plans and goals
- Develop the skills to manage conflict
- Understand the rules of giving and receiving feedback
- Analysis feedback and use to improve service delivery
- Address areas of stress or personal issues
- Explore professional boundaries
- Recognise barriers to peak performance and facilitate change where necessary

- What is supervision training
- The role of the supervisor
- Relevant legislation – policies and procedures
- Why, what and how individuals perform
- The structure of a supervision session – introduction, development and monitoring
- Consolidating the session through effective summaries and linkages to the next stage of performance
- Practice supervision sessions
- Practice active listening skills
