Course Overview
This course examines the ways in which communication can sometimes be hindered and then maps out the main styles of communication: passive, aggressive, passive-aggressive, manipulative and assertive. Learners are given the opportunity to practice being assertive, as well as to look at the theory and practice of active listening.

The aim of this course is to provide learners with opportunity to improve their communication skills.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course learners should be able to:

  • Describe the different ways in which we often communicate
  • Describe many of the blocks to effective communication
  • Describe the key skills associated with being assertive
  • Use these skills with confidence

Methodology
PowerPoint presentations, trainer presentation, group work, case studies, role plays, pairs work, further reading
