Certificate: Preparing to work in Adult Social Care L2 and 3
The Level 2 and 3 Certificates in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care are vocationally-related, credit-based qualifications that provide valuable opportunities for individuals to gain underpinning knowledge and understanding of the sector and their role within it. The qualifications support the achievement of Functional Skills.
Target Audience:
Learners interested in, or new to, working in
adult social care in England. They have been developed to meet
specific needs in England and are available to pre-16 learners
(Level 2) as well as to learners who are 16 and over. It is
anticipated that these qualifications will have a wide use in the
sector and be included in the Apprenticeship Frameworks for the
sector.
These qualifications also relate to the knowledge elements of the mandatory units of the Diplomas in Health and Social Care at levels 2 and 3 and are available to anyone who is capable of reaching the required standards. They have been developed free from any barriers that restrict access or progression thereby promoting equal opportunities. There are no formal requirements for entry to these qualifications.

- Understanding the role of the social care worker
- Principles of communication in adult care settings
- Principles of personal development in adult care settings
- Principles of diversity, equality and inclusion in adult care settings
- Understand person-centred approaches in adult care settings
- Understand health and safety in adult care settings
- Understand how to handle information in adult care settings
- Principles of safeguarding and protection in adult care settings
Introduction to duty of care in health, social care or children's and young people's settings (Level 2)
Principles of implementing duty of care in health, social care or children's and young people's settings (level 3)

Level 2 – 20 credits
Level 3 – 21 credits
